This new addition to carrier billing expands the payment methods supported in the Google Play store. In addition to debit and credit cards, Play Store also supports Net Banking. You can also make use of Promo codes for redemption of any item on the Play Store. With carrier billing now live for the top three carriers in India, Google can hope to attract a lot more paying customers in the Play Store.
Google had made an announcement back in October last year that Airtel and Vodafone will be supported for carrier billing soon. While the company did not give any timeline for its implementation, two months later the payment option is now live.
How Does Google Play Carrier Billing Work?
Carrier billing on the Play Store is very simple. You can enter your relevant details under Accounts -> Payment Method -> Add payment method in the Play Store app on your phone. If you are a prepaid customer of any of the supported carriers, the cost of the item you are purchasing will be deducted from your prepaid talktime balance. If you are a postpaid customer, the amount of purchases you make will be reflected in your postpaid bill at the end of the current billing cycle.
