Camera and Internal Storage

The camera unit at the back of the Desire 516c is a 5 MP one aided by LED flash. At the front is a VGA front facing camera which assists in capturing basic self portrait shots and video calling. Of course, there are smartphones with better imaging aspects in the market at its price bracket making the HTC offering a weak contender in this segment. The internal storage of the Desire 516c stands at 4 GB which can be increased further with the help of a micro SD card by another 64 GB. The internal storage is a bit less and it should have been at least 8 GB to make the device better than its competitors.

Processor and Battery

At its core, the Desire 516c uses a 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 200 processor as in the Desire 516. While the others in this segment use a Snapdragon 400 processor that is relatively better, this one makes the smartphone lag behind the race. However, it is joined by 1 GB of RAM which complements it rendering a decent performance. The battery unit inside the Desire 516c is a 1,950 mAh unit that is pretty less for a smartphone in this price bracket. Nevertheless, it will still last you a little less than a day hoping us for HTC to incorporate a better battery in its upcoming mid-range devices.

Display and Features

The display unit of the Desire 516c is a 5 inch one which has a resolution of 960×540 pixels which translates into a pixel density of 220 ppi. HTC should have boasted the screen resolution to HD 1280×720 pixels to make the Desire 516c a better competitor in this market segment. The smartphone runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Sense UI on top. The Android version is outdated and HTC should have considered launching the device with KitKat instead. Otherwise, there are usual connectivity aspects such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and dual SIM functionality.

Comparison

It will be competing with the new Moto G, Nokia Lumia 730 and Asus Zenfone 5 to mention a few.

Price and Conclusion

HTC Desire 516c is priced attractively at Rs 12,990 making it a choice of mid-range smartphone seekers concerned about the pricing of the device. However, the handset being a tough rival to the second generation Moto G lags behind in terms of competition with its entry-level specifications. HTC could have incorporated a better processor, newer iteration of Android platform, increased internal storage capacity and an improved battery to make the device better.
