Display and Processor
When it comes to display, both the smartphones are given the same 5 inch Super LCD 3 capacitive touch screen display with FHD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. However, the advantage is that the display in the One M8 comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection against scratches and damage. In terms of hardware, both the devices are stuffed with 2.5 quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset and are backed by Adreno 330 GPU and 2 GB of RAM for efficient handling of the multi-tasking department. But, the difference is that the variant of One M8 launched in US and EMEA regions can be clocked only up to 2.3 GHz. May be, the same will happen even in the One E8 once the device is launched globally.
Camera and Internal Storage
The camera is one of the biggest differences between the One M8 and One E8. The former being the flagship model comes with a UltraPixel sensor and Duo Camera arrangement at the rear involving the second sensor to refocus the object after capturing the snap for background blurring options. However, the one on the One E8 is a simple 13 MP snapper that can capture detailed photos, but it is no match to the Duo Camera in the flagship device. On the front, both the handset includes a 5 MP snapper that can shoot FHD 1080p videos. In terms of storage, the One M8 comes in two variants – 16 GB and 32 GB of default storage space whereas its plastic variant has only 16 GB of internal storage capacity. However, both come with a micro SD card slot that can support up to 128 GB of additional storage to store all the necessary content.
Battery and Features
Both the handsets – HTC One M8 and HTC One E8 come with similar 2,600 mAh batteries, but it is rated to deliver up to 20 hours of talk time and 496 hours of standby time to the former and 26.5 hours of talk time and 504 hours of standby time to the latter. On the software front, the handsets are based on Android 4.4 KitKat and Sense 6.0 UI, hence they will resemble each other in terms of software experience. The only real difference could be felt in the camera apps. Moreover, both the devices have all the standard sensors and hence they deliver motion gestures and low power support for fitness applications. Talking of connectivity, both the handsets come with Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, 4G, Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G and the difference is that the One M8 being an advanced model comes with IR blaster.
Key Specs
Price and Conclusion
Right now, HTC sells the One M8 in India for Rs 49,900, so we expect the One E8 to be launched for a relatively lesser price tag considering that it misses out on the Duo Camera setup and the metallic build. For those consumers without concerns on the price tag, the HTC One M8 is undoubtedly the superior handset and the credits go to its premium build quality.
