LeEco has used a very simple looking white box to pack the reasonably priced Le 1s. It is a wise call from the company by not spending too much on the package and box, and use that margin in the handset instead. It is a very basic rectangular box with almost no text on the box except the LeTV branding and the device information on the back.

Opening the box, you will find the handset lying on the top shelf. Right below the handset is the kit that contains user manual and SIM ejection tool. Taking out the kit will open the last compartment containing the fast charger and the USB Type-C cable resting below.

Physical Overview

The LeEco Le 1s comes packed in a premium looking all-metal body with a 5.5 inch display and a design that looks like the phone has no side bezels. The edges have chamfered finish which enhances the rear look. Slight curve on the back panel makes this device sit perfectly in the palms.

The front has the 5.5 inch IPS display with ultra-thin side bezels. You will find the speaker mesh on the top with the front camera and proximity and light sensors. The navigation buttons are on the chin of the phone and they are backlit. They’ll only light up when you touch them.

The volume rocker and lock/power keys are on the top of the right side and the dual SIM tray is placed on the left side of the phone.

3.5 m audio jack is located on the top with an IR blaster.

At the bottom, there is a USB Type-C port and the speaker grill on both its side.

The back has the circular ring with shiny chrome finished fingerprint sensor in the middle. The camera is at the top left corner with a single LED flash and secondary microphone.

User Interface

It comes with Android 5.1 skinned with company’s very own EUI 5.5 on top. The interface is very distinct from the authentic Android experience. You will not the any shortcuts or tools if you swipe the notification panel from the top. It does not have an option to control brightness, toggles for WI-FI, Bluetooth, GPS and more. There is not app drawer either and all the icons are laid on the front screen and can be browsed directly by swiping away.

The UI has different icons and a totally revamped settings menu that is divided into two parts- App settings and System settings.

Gaming Performance

The LeEco Le 1s is a stunner when it comes to gaming. We did not expect such gaming capabilities from a device with such an affordable price tag. It is powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek Helio X10 processor clocked at 2.2GHz per core, has 3GB of RAM. We installed Asphalt 8 and Dead Trigger 2 on this device and changed the default graphic settings from medium to high. Surprisingly, the handset was not showing up any issues in the game-play while playing Dead Trigger 2. Then we decided to run the Asphalt 8 and again the Le 1s was handling the graphics pretty nicely. We noticed a minor frame drops when there was action on the screen, but it was too small to count as an issue.

Note: – The gaming tests were done under an atmospheric temperature of 19 degree Celsius. [table id=342 /] As far as the heating is concerned, the device was having some minor heating issues while gaming. We noticed excessive heating around the top of the display and also at the back. After playing Asphalt 8 for 15 minutes without a break, we could feel the heat majorly on the display.

Le 1s Performance and Benchmark Scores

Le 1s is a smartphone that can work up to your limits and expectations when it comes to performance. I cannot assure of the best performance and a smooth experience but it surely does perform well than what we expect from a phone costing INR 10K. The UI was working fair, opening and closing of apps was also smooth. We did face minor glitches in between some areas of the UI but these lags are common in almost every budget phone. Verdict

LeEco Le 1s has been gaining some popularity since its release and I would say it deserves the attention. Most of us may be thinking that the fingerprint sensor, 3 GB RAM and metal uni-body is something that is unusual in budget segment phones but the Le 1s is more than just these. During our testing the Le 1s was performing really well in almost all the possible areas. Gaming on this device is not something that we don’t expect from phones of this category, it will set a new benchmark for the existing budget segment phones.
