Display and Processor
The display of Moto G is one of its highlighted attributes. The sharp IPS LCD panel is 4.5 inches in size and features 720 p HD resolution which amounts to 326 pixels per inches. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which means you won’t need a screen guard between you and the display. The Lenovo S820 comes with a 4.7 inch IPS LCD display with 1280 x 720 pixels spread across it. The pixel density is marginally reduced to 312 ppi, but that won’t be noticeable. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass but not Gorilla Glass 3, which means it will still be prone to scratches (not much though). 4.7 Inch is more preferable display size, but that varies from person to person. If you can do well with the 4.5 inch display Moto G is the way to go. The processor employed in Moto G is a Cortex A7 based Quad core processor ticking at 1.2 GHz housed in Snapdragon 400 branded chipset from Qualcomm. It is the same chipset that Appeared in Galaxy Grand 2 and is assisted by Adreno 305 GPU. In our time with the device there was no noticeable lag. The Lenovo S820 on the other hand runs on MediaTek MT6589 quad core chipset clocked at 1.2 GHz and assisted by PowerVR SGX544 GPU. Again the chipset is backed by 1 GB RAM in this case to and the major difference is the manufacturing company. Qualcomm enjoys a better reputation as far as quality is concerned which gives Moto G an edge.
Camera and Memory
The camera is a basic limiting factor of Moto G but if you had to opt for a 5 MP camera unit, you could do a lot worse than Moto G 5 MP rear snapper capable of HD video recording. The 1.3 MP camera at the front is also present for video calling. The Lenovo S820 on the other hand features 12 MP camera at the back supported with LED flash and a 2 MP unit at the front. If you are looking for a camera specific phone, Lenovo S820 will serve you better with more details from its 4000 x 3000 pixel camera. Moto G comes with limited 8 GB/ 16 GB storage which cannot be expanded. 16 GB with USB OTG support will be sufficient for most users but not everyone. The Lenovo S820 on the other hand comes with paltry 4 GB onboard storage, but the storage can be extended to 32 GB using microSD support.
Battery, OS and Other Features
The Battery of Moto G is a respite in its price segment. The phone offers a 2070 mAh battery which will last longer than most other domestic branded competition. The battery however is not removable. The Lenovo S820 on the other hand offers you 140 hours of standby time and 10 hours of talk time on 3G from its 2000 mAh removable battery, which is again above average but still less compared to Moto G. Moto G runs on Android 4.3 Jelly bean operating system out of the box with new and fancy Android KitKat in the pipeline. The Lenovo S820 on the other hand offers Android 4.2 jelly bean, and no assurance of any update in the near future.
Key Specs
Conclusion
Despite minimum difference in the spec sheet, Moto G will offer you premium smartphone experience, where as the Lenovo S820 will be a very good budget Android phone. The assurance of Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset coupled with latest software, Customization options, vast community support, sharp IPS LCD display and long lasting battery makes Moto G a winner. If you can’t compromise with a ‘not so good’ camera on Moto G, Lenovo S820 will be the phone for you in the same price bracket.
