The mid-range smartphone from Samsung comes with some premium level specs. The highlights of the phone are its Super AMOLED Infinity U display that also features an in-display fingerprint scanner, triple cameras at the back and Android 9 Pie with Samsung’s OneUI. We bring the Hands On review of the Galaxy A50 from our MWC 2019 coverage.
Design and Display
The Galaxy A50 feels polished when we hold it in hand. It has a plastic back panel with a reflective coating that also scatters the light and makes it look really cool. The edges are curved that merge into the screen. There is an Infinity U styled notch on the front that also offers a screen-to-body ratio of 91.6% making the front area more immersive for watching content and playing games. It also features an in-display Fingerprint sensor. On the right side, there are power and volume buttons. While on the left side, the SIM tray takes place. This phone is sleek and measures just 7.7mm in thickness. It is also lightweight and comes in Black, White, Blue and Coral colors. If we talk about the display, the Galaxy A50 has a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution. The display panel is tall and it looks crisp and beautiful, thanks to SAMOLED panel and FHD+ resolution. The brightness is also good and viewing angles are great as well.
Cameras
As for the camera, the Galaxy A50 has triple rear cameras. The setup consists of a 25MP primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture, a 5MP depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera with f/2.2 aperture and 123-degree lens. In our limited time with the handset, we found that the camera takes better photos during daytime or in well-lit environments. The cameras offered good details with accurate colors as well. The ultra-wide angle sensor also offers a different frame and clicks wide pictures with details. The 25MP selfie camera also clicks impressive lights with live bokeh mode. We will test out the camera in details in our full review.
Performance
The Galaxy A50 is powered by the latest Exynos 9610 10nm processor with Mali-G72 GPU. It packs up to 6GB of RAM and comes with up to 128GB storage that is expandable up to 512GB via micro SD card. The smartphone runs Samsung’s latest One UI based on Android 9.0 Pie. The phone’s performance seems seamless during our initial testing. The popular games like PUBG Mobile can be played on high settings with HDR on. However, we will test the in-depth performance of Galaxy A50 in our full review to see how it performs on heavy usage and multitasking. The phone packs a huge 4000mAh battery that also supports 15W fast charging. It supports various connectivity options such as Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS + GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C. The Samsung Galaxy A50 sale in India will start from March 2 at a starting price of Rs. 19,990.
