Latest devices getting MIUI 9 update
Xiaomi has started rolling out the MIUI 9 global beta ROM to the remaining devices eligible for the MIUI 9 update. Because it is a beta ROM, you will have to manually get it from Xiaomi’s website. New features in MIUI 9
Since MIUI updates have made up for Android updates on Xiaomi devices, they carry some significant performance and aesthetic updates. The MIUI 9 is Xiaomi’s ROM based on Android Nougat. Here are some new features of the MIUI 9.
Faster App Startup
Xiaomi is updating devices as old as the Mi 2/2S with MIUI 9. While newer and faster devices may not show full usage of app launch optimization on the MIUI 9, older devices with lesser specifications are likely to benefit from it.
Smart Assistant and Smart App Launcher
While these features are not yet out for the Global Beta MIUI release, these are being used for the China version. Smart Assistant on the MIUI 9 will assist you to search for anything be it messages, images, or files on your Xiaomi device. Smart launcher, on the other hand, will give suggestions about the relevant apps to be launched based on the content on your device’s screen. It just takes two steps to launch the apps.
Split-Screen multitasking
While MIUI 9 brings many optimizations along with new themes for aesthetic purpose, it has introduced a very useful feature to Xiaomi devices. With MIUI 9, you can run two apps simultaneously in split-screen mode, making it convenient to keep texting while watching a YouTube video or checking Social Media and emails side-by-side.

While MIUI 9 is in the final stage of beta roll out, Xiaomi is expected to roll the stable version for some devices by the end of this year.
